Het plangebied ligt in een oud hoevelandschap met essen en kampen. Het complex bevindt zich in de zone van ‘bouwland en bebouwing’. Daar waar vroeger door de eerste bewoners de bodem vruchtbaar gemaakt werd door heideplaggen met potstal te vermengen en op de akkers te brengen. De nattere landen dichter bij de Azelooer beek werden als grasland gebruikt. Kenmerkend zijn de bolle akkers met houtwallen en clumbs van bomen.
Het voormalig jongensinternaat is in de jaren 50 gebouwd en werd decennia later, nadat er in de jaren 90 een asielzoekers centrum werd gevestigd, vergroot met een aantal bijgebouwen.

Het programma vraagt om een flexibele invulling; asielzoekerscentrum op korte termijn en zorghotel voor de langere termijn. Doelstelling is sociale en ecologische duurzaamheid te creëren; een zinvolle dagbesteding voor de bewoners in combinatie met interactie met de omgeving. Door het toepassen van de principes van permaculture ontstaat een gesloten kringloop wat een duurzame exploitatie tot gevolg heeft.
context
Uiteindelijk zal de overgang van kavelgrootte geleidelijk overgaan naar de schaal die na de introductie van kunstmest en ruilverkaveling gangbaar werd. Een intensieve vorm van landbouw die door de naburige landbouwbedrijven nog steeds wordt toegepast.
concept
Centraal ligt het hoofdgebouw met in de directe omgeving de kleinere kavels voor kruiden- bloemen en groenten. Ook de kassen liggen op korte afstand van de keuken en restaurants. Verder weg liggen de kavels voor overige gewassen die qua opbrengst en efficiency een groter oppervlak nodig hebben.

The project area is situated in an old farm landscape with ash trees and camps. The area is located in a zone marked “arable land and buildings.” The first residents used to fertilize the soil by mixing together sods with deep litter and eventually applied this to the fields. The wetter grounds near the Azelooer stream were used as pasture.
Typical for this area is the round fields with hedgerows and trees clumbs.
The former boarding school was built in the late 50s. Decades later, after the development of a refugee center in the 90s, the boarding school was enlarged by a number of annexes.
program
The project requires a flexible interpretation; a refugee center in the short term, and a care hotel in the long term. The aim is to create social and environmental sustainability; meaningful activities for residents in combination with interaction with the environment. By applying the principles of permaculture there will be a closed cycle which will result in sustainable exploitation.
context
Eventually, the size of the area will gradually transition to the scale it had after the introduction of fertilizer and land consolidation. An intensive form of agriculture that is still used by the neighboring farms today
concept
Central is the main building within its immediate vicinity smaller plots for herbal flowers and vegetables. The greenhouses are also just a short distance from the kitchen and the restaurants. A little further down are lots of other crops that need a larger area in terms of yield and efficiency.
